Vegan Wine That’s More Than Fine

As I’ve pointed out before, not all alcohol is vegan.  This can make the drinking part of “eat, drink, and be merry” a little challenging!  However, there are plenty of delicious alcoholic beverages that are vegan, and my favorite today falls into the deep, dark, earthy, and fabulously red, category:  Coturri Wines.

That right there is Harry “Red” Coturri, founder of the company, and the man responsible for handing down some seriously old school winemaking techniques to his family – the folks that still run the vineyards to this day!  According to Barnivore, “They don’t self-identify as vegan, but they are. They make wild, untamed wines with nothing added but grapes, and nothing taken away (no fining or filtering). They don’t even add yeast, because it occurs naturally on the grapes.”  In my opinion, these practices are what account for the bold taste and gorgeous color of Coturri wines…. but then again I know nothing about wine making.  All I know is that I’ve never tried a wine from them I didn’t REALLY enjoy, and the fact that they are vegan, and operate with such care for the soil and environment, makes me all the more happy to indulge.
